VANCOUVER - City council will host a two-hour panel discussion with oil-tanker experts today to discuss the state of the oil industry in Vancouver.
Coun. Andrea Reimer said the meeting is in response to citizens' concerns over a reported increase of tanker traffic in the Burrard Inlet in recent years, prompted in part by the massive, continuing oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico. "We thought what would be most helpful would be to get all the experts in a room and get them to talk to us about what's happening here in the Vancouver region in relation to oil-tanker traffic," she said.
Speakers will include Chris Badger, CEO of Port Metro Vancouver, Stephen Brown, president of the B.C. Chamber of Shipping, and representatives from Transport Canada, Greenpeace and the Pacific Pilotage Authority.
