The city is considering closing it and some other streets to traffic this summer

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) - Is Granville Street for cars or partiers? The city council is voting on whether it should be both.
They call it the "Open Streets" program and if it passes Granville Street will be closed to traffic from Friday to Sunday night this summer for events like impromptu street hockey games, just like last year during the Olympics.
Councillor Andrea Reimer says the city will also be doing the same kind of thing in other neighbourhoods this summer, but not quite as loud. "[It will be] very different in tone, much more neighbourhood focused, and meant to be a benefit to the local residents and local businesses."
The program will cost $650,000. Most of that money will go to clean up and putting on events like Farmer's Markets on city streets.
