It looks like Vancouverites will now play a bigger role in naming public streets and parks.
City Council has passed a motion requesting staff look into best practices for public input while naming streets and other public places such as parks.
Right now, the city has a street naming committee which doesn't consult with the public.
Councillor Andrea Reimer, who tabled the motion, says place names can often bring out a lot of emotion, "I guess we would hope that the City of Vancouver would be here for hundreds of years, and the streets ideally, will keep those names for hundreds of years."
City staff will now come back with a report to Council, outlining how the public can be involve
