Greenest City: Out of City Hall and Into the Community

A whack of green initiatives flowing out of the Greenest City Action Team Quick Start Recommendations came to council today including:

• mandatory LEED Gold certification for rezonings
• Summer Spaces approved as a permanent fixture starting in 2011
• new separated bike lanes along Dunsmuir and direction to connect this new east side route through downtown with Burrard bridge on the west side

But nothing stands out larger than moving the Greenest City Action Team's Vancouver 2020: A Bright Green Future report out of city hall and into the community. Council approved the long term goals, the 2020 targets in principle (both of these were developed by a 16 member team of experts working with community groups and staff at city hall over the last year) and a robust engagement plan with the community to turn goals and targets into action.
