This past weekend was a flurry of festivals and events split between Councillor Kerry Jang and myself to give the greetings, cut the ribbons and thank the volunteers for putting on fantastic events for their communities.
A short summary: East Vancouver Farmers Market, Marpole Community Days, East Vancouver Area Scouts 2nd Annual Picnic, Party in the Park for First United's 125 Anniversary, Fan Zones on Granville and Hamilton, Chinatown Night Market opening, Italian Day on the Drive, the Fair in the Square, and Love Vancouver, Love Your Planet.
There's also a list of festivals I didn't make it too. Even with transit, biking and car pooling you can only get to so many things that start at the same time.
No Fun City? Not any more! Between all the events, I got to spend the weekend with 250,000 people enjoying sunshine, great food, new information and of course an excellent hockey game.
On top of all that the City of Vancouver hosted it's first ever Housing Unconference this past Saturday. No balloons or face-painting but alot of creative citizen-led ideas on dealing with the chronic housing affordability challenge for Vancouver residents.
Cleaning out my bag this morning, I have a stack of brochures on great ideas and...more festivals, events and happenings coming up in Vancouver!
