Yet another organization is making life more difficult for smokers.
Smoking will be banned in all Metro Vancouver district parks...starting January 1st.
The measure in parks owned or operated by the regional district will include zones where smoking is allowed.
In approving the ban, however, Metro Vancouver directors also rejected an attempt to water it down.
That would have allowed smoking in the parks, except in the busiest areas with the most people.
Vancouver Councillor Andrea Reimer says there is no inherent right to smoke in a public place anymore than there is a right to be naked or listen to loud music.
A Metro Vancouver report indicates most smokers will likely comply with the ban, but adds park officers will be out enforcing it.
